‘THE MORE YOU KNOW’ VERTICAL VIDEO SERIES

PRODUCTION, MOTION/SOUND DESIGN BY JACK DURAN

I pitched and am producing this short vertical video series for foundation Carnegie Corporation of New York that features grantees from across its international peace, democracy, and education grantmaking areas sharing quick uptakes on big ideas in an engaging way to reach and educate young, but civically disengaged, audiences on important issues.

TAKING ON TRANSFORMATION PROMOTIONAL VIDEO

ANIMATION & PRODUCTION: JACK DURAN

I created this promotional video in preparation for the launch of, Taking on Transformation, an interactive digital hub and editorial publication I designed and developed for Columbia Justice Lab.

“EMBRACING DIGNITY” GALA VIDEO SPOTLIGHT

DIRECTION & PRODUCTION: JACK DURAN

I worked very closely with Abdul, a formerly incarcerated person who was a member of one of Restoring Promise’s rehabilitative units in Cheshire, Connecticut, interviewed him using trauma-informed methods, and shot this spotlight video of him, his experiences, and Restoring Promise’s work to transform prison conditions to be included in a larger fundraising video to be shown at Vera’s 2019 annual gala.

“THE CIRCUMFERENCE OF HOPE” SHORT DOCUMENTARY

DIRECTION & CINEMATOGRAPHY: ANDRE ANDREEV, DRESSCODE NY
PRODUCTION ASSOCIATE: JACK DURAN

This is a clip of a longer short documentary directed by Andre Andreev, the partner of video studio Dresscode NY, as a deep dive into Vera Institute’s work to transform prison culture. As the Vera comms point person, I flew and traveled to different prisons, assisting Andre as he filmed onsite, securing access to locations and people for interviews, conducting informed consent processes with subjects, providing contextual information about Vera’s work and the differences between the U.S. and German systems, and generally scouting and scanning different environments to redirect him to capture certain moments for the documentary.

“WHAT GERMAN PRISONS DO DIFFERENTLY” EXPLAINER VIDEO

VIDEO & PRODUCTION: JACK DURAN

This was shot and produced as a quick overview of the differences between American and German prisons as a call to action to reform prison conditions in the U.S. The video was shown at national convenings with state officials, correctional leaders, and advocacy leaders in attendance, and sent to foundation officers and major donors as an overview of the initiative’s global exchange work. This was actually my very first full-length, fully-produced video that I ever worked on.

“THROUGH THEIR EYES” PROMOTIONAL VIDEO

ANIMATION & PRODUCTION: JACK DURAN

I created this promotional video as part of the digital distribution strategy for launching a multimedia publication I produced for Vera Institute of Justice, Through Their Eyes.
